As a result of the increased concern about the swine flu, we have expanded the lesson to the point that it is too big for a single week, and so we are splitting it into two separate lessons.
This week’s lesson is going to focus strictly on pandemic flu. We’ll be covering the history of the flu, the validity of the threat, how you can prevent the flu for little/no cost, and how you can treat the flu if you get it.
For this week’s lesson, I’ve consulted with doctors, naturopaths, a
bio-weapons expert who studied under the head of the Soviet Bio-Weapons
program, and a geneticist who specializes in viruses. It’s some VERY
exciting information that you’re going to want to print out and read a

No. I do not think it is real. More people died from the flu over the past winters than this . I firmly believe that our government likes to keep us in a constant state of worry. While we are in this state of worry they can do whatever they like and our minds are on these little things that they blow up into a big deal over the news channels and newspapers. Fear is powerful. For most fear stops them from thinking things out for themselves. Don’t think this out just beleive what you hear and read is their simple reasoning. Don’t make me think! Let me watch HBO and oh yes please entertain me 24’7.First it is the flu and then they raise our fuel prices. Most people are sheep. Take away their cable TV and there will be riots in our streets.What does the remainder of 2009 hold for us?
We use common sense. Everyone doesn’t possess the ability to think for themselves. We continue to take our normal supplements. We do not consume proccessed foods. Focus a week on the flu ? Any time I can learn something I am all for it.
Is “the flu” real? Of course. Do people die? Some do. But the fear mongering is all out of proportion to any real threats. Hoax or conspiracy? That another pandemic of some disease, probably a flu virus, will ravage the world is a certainty. When all was over and years later, it was discovered that the flu that killed tens of thousands during WW I started in mid america, soldiers on leave and a chicken farm. Then they shipped to France where the movement of people back and forth to every nation in the world distributed the flu. With modern transportation, we may have dodged a bullet with the swine flu or it may just be lingering along until it mutates into a form that moves readily from human to human. The trick is to detect it early and isolate and contain. Cuss the media and govt all you want, these are the facts.
The “swine flu” is real: I work @ a hospital on a border of the USA and elsewhere: we have patients, whether or not YOU believe never changes Physics or Truth. Will it become a pandemic? People, VERY intelligent and emotionally stable physicians and scientists are CONCERNED, so what should you be? Y2K was not as bad because THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WORKED 60-HR WEEKS TO FIX IT! People ARE dying from this, so in October or November [perhaps even as early as September] we shall see if those who are working behind the scenes and out of the silly Media Spotlight can head off something that could easily kill you, your family or me and mine. I am a retired Haz/Mat Technician from a major Metropolitan Fire Dept. I was in the position for over 20 year. During the big scare with the white powder we worked closely with the FBI Lab and I have taken many courses for responders to major incidences. For those students or members who do not think the threat is real or can become real overnight well all I can say is that you may not be as prepared for these problems as you might think. Panic no, Gov’t. bureauocratic BS, maybe. If you think the Gov’t. is prepared to take care of you, you are wrong. If you think you City, County, State or Feds have the resourses to take care of you, think again. I believe most of you taking this course want to learn, well listen well, prepare, some of you are mistake about who the sheep are. Remember the saying I saw the enemy and it was me, or whatever the exact quote was? I think you are taking this course because you don’t think you will be taken care of and want to do the responsible thing. Well the responsible thing to to is listen, and make a educated decision on facts. If you can’t find the facts in this class look on the internet, join some clubs, volunteer at medical centers, befriend a cop or firefighter. You are right you have not been told the truth, they never will tell you the truth. You will only ever hear what they want you to hear. Conspiracy theories, cover-ups who knows? It is a little bit of all of that Sheep hearders and sheep dogs are smart and have many ways of fooling the lambs into submission or obliteration. Wish I could say more but then most of you would not really want to believe it.
I’m glad to see information regarding the pandemic and more especially the H3N1 influenza being shared; we have one receptionist (and her son) out of the office at this time with diagnosed H3N1 influenza (central NC) and expect more. My background being infectious disease and immunology, I expect this variant to mutate and become more virulent as it passes from individual to individual, making the next wave in the Fall even more of an issue. There are any number of organisms that can defy effective prevention and cause morbidity to a point where responding to other threats and challenges is compromised. Simply put, if the entire Batallion of a fighting force became ill with a disease that affected their g-i tracts significantly and caused weakness, their adversaries would have a much easier time of defeating them. It is my hope that we will not view this pandemic with a “Chicken Little” stance, but that we will take the appropriate measures to ensure that we are able to effectively deal with this or any other pandemic or epidemic disease process. You can be that our nation’s enemies are paying close attention to our response. Does anyone else wonder where this virus genuinely originated? Can we say without reservation that a non-lethal bioweapon that weakens a major portion of the population is not a serious consideration in the armamentarium of a miliary force?

I am a family nurse practitioner, certified herbalist, and “spiritual midwife”… have practiced for 18 years…. I believe the government desires the people to be in a constant state of panic! It’s just the “flu”….. when we do not have a word for a viral infection, we call it the flu… for goodness sake…. it’s just that. If you will build your immune system,stop poisoning it with the “American” diet of processed, hormone injected “foods”, drugs, overindulgence in alcohol, cigarettes and other life-threatening garbage…. you will tend to stay well! Now is the time to learn before it is too late! Help yourself, the government certainly doesn’t intend to, despite the lies from obamanation!! God help us!
Obviously not swine flu but while on the subject let me ask you this, I have a family of five, we have had more fevers and sick days over the last few months than ever, and we are not the only ones, do people think this is just a coincidence, or is there something really going on?
Sadly, I think the H1N1 is real. It is following the same path and pathology as the Spanish flu of 1918. That also started slow and mild and then returned in a vengance in the fall. Following the intial government response and the effect of that on the stock market, the government has now declared it to be nothing to downplay the potential threat to save the stock market. Now one TamiFlu resistant case has been found in Denmark. H1N1 had 8 genomes and is set for mutation, probably not into a kinder gentler strain.
In November of 2008 Rahm Emanuel(Obamas chief of staff) said “Never Let a Good Crisis Go To Waste You don’t ever want a crisis to go to waste; it’s an opportunity to do important things that you would otherwise avoid.”
Some people will die from the Swine Flu just like some people die from the Flu each year, however I expect that this administration will use this as an excuse for more government interference in our lives.
The best plan is one that involves preparation, pro-active execution, and vigilance. Armed with those three tools will increase your ability to overcome diversity. Inaction or complacency is your worst enemy.

Im not sure what to think I do know that I will not let the man put a bunch of toxic injections into my body. Besides the fact that immunizations will trash out my immune system (have’nt had any since 1973 Army) they might put micro chips into the vaccines. Maybe im just too paranoid….it has kept me alive so far.

I don’t know if the flu is valid or not but I have taken precations for my loved ones by purchasing MMS which will kill any virus the human body can come up with. “yes I know, but unless you’ve avtually tried it you have no opinion! One needn’t worry about forced vaccination as long as you have your MMS handy. It has killed my flu in hours after taken and is most exemplary in killing malaria in proven cases in south america and africa.

Being prepared for anything is impossible and we need to have priorities.A flu pandemic is fairly low on my list. I am more concerned about an over zealous government at any level become overly authoritarian and confiscitory.

I don’t believe any of the propaganda we are bombarded with daily by the State controlled media. We have survived Asian flu’s as long as I can remember. Yes, people died from them. Often as a result of their own stupidity or ignorance (Lack of understanding basic common sense health principals).

Manufactured fear or not, and there is alot of evidence for the former, it matters not. Speaking for myself, I don’t want any flu and prepare accordingly. Common sense things like washing hands and shopping cart handles, the correct uses of Sambucol-Tylenol and Advil, Herbal supplements and Vitamen C etc. Learn and prepare for any eventualities, keep your tin foil hat on tight and don’t shot till you see the whites of their eyes.
A pandemic is possible, the concern with H1N1 is that it affects a different demographic, that of normally healthy 8-25 yr. olds. While concern is there, panic is unnecessary. The medical community in the United States is preparing for the possibility of an H1N1 outbreak. The problem is that no one knows when or if this outbreak will occur and production of the normal seasonal flu vacine will be completed prior to starting production of the H1N1 vacinne as the seasonal flu is a going to occur.

I believe that it is real but probably not much worse that the annual flu strains. For me this is a good exercise to practice for a real pandemic or other isolating disaster that might strike.
The H1N1 virus is real. But IMO our Government is making more out of it than necessary. Every year 30K+ die from flu and other acute respiratory diseases. Our Govt, media and CDC don’t make much out of that. This time though I believe our Govt is watching this as test case for how the population will react to future crises. And I believe we will see more of these kinds of things. I have friends who know someone with H1N1. However, I will not take any immunization. Did once in the Army in 1978. Mad me sick. Agree with building up immune system. And taking appropriate measures for safety and security.
The swine flu is real–if you don’t believe it just ask those who have suffer from it or worse yet have had family members die from it. I personally do not subscribe to the conspiricy theorist view that the government is doing something evil here. I do believe that it is prudent to be prepared and to be vigilant. Take reasonable precautions and prepare for the worst(by worst case I do not mean a bio-hazard suit). Even if you are wrong and there is no pandemic, at least you have on hand what you need should you get the flu. Be reasonable!

My sister is just now getting over the swine flue (or H1N1 whichever you call it). She got it from her kids who got it from theirs. It’s no different from every other breed of asian flu but it’s more severe than last years variety, but with the proper precautions and preparations we can live through it. I really enjoy your course and look foreward to your next lessons. I’m not as fast at completing them as my younger counterparts but I’m reading them as soon as I get them and doing them as fast as I can. I do believe that jackass is taking advantage of this to further his goals of keeping us occupied worrying while he sneaks his bulls— through our legal (or illegal) system. Keep up the good work of showing us a way through this bullcrap.
When you consider words like epidemic and pandemic what is the next word that comes to mind…is it not the plague. Because if a pandemic is world wide,preading from city to city country to country then isn’t that a definition of a plague of sorts? In a meeting with a county health rep and ask if we were getting vacinated I said no. Why, she asked. I told her I don’t see it. And if it was a pandemic shouldn’t our community be informed of how many have come down with the virus? Wouldn’t we hear of someone down the street dying from the swine flu? Today,on the news it was reported that 10,000 people have died from the swine flu, 1000 were children. But not a single story of any of those families who have lost their children to the virus. I am not saying that people have not died, but I just don’t see except on the news.
And as an aside, I believe there are is only one person who is telling the truth regarding the progressive movement’s plans to reshape our country and that’s Rush and Glenn Beck. I want this president impeached for treason. I believe the swine flu is a hoax and I believe this president is a hoax.

Thank you for sharing comments, I read them all. It is my belief that the human body is THE most miraculous piece of self-repairing equipment in the world if given the right inputs and the mind is the most powerful thing you will ever own. The possibility that the Governments logic is- “cure nothing, capitalize on everthing” is just as true as any flu, virus or disease that can kill; in large numbers or single events, both exist as a reality. No matter what it is, when I ask myself ‘how/if I can beat this?’- my answer is ‘ALLWAYS!’. Arm yourself with knowledge.
Is H1N1 real? Yes it’s real, but not deadly — not yet. Will it mutate into something deadly? Only time will tell. In the meantime, there’s a product called Epicore that has kept my immune system in tip-top shape. I’ve got MMS, collidol silver, a solution of xylitol to use on my sinuses and throat,Vitamin C, & A and others, and Hydrogen Peroxide. Will all of this protect me and my family if H1N1 goes viral? My thoughts on the flu… The flu is real; people of all ages die annually. However, I do believe that H1N1 was manufactured. I’ll not detail the many possibilities as to why or by whom, but one explanation would certainly be Pharmaceutical companies.
H1N1 isn’t a hoax or conspiracy, and the virus will mutate becoming potentially more life threatening in the future. Yes, it’s very odd that the age group affected was that of 8-25 year olds, when normally we see the elderly or persons with lower immune systems affected; we maybe less fortunate with the next outbreak.
My family and I keep our immune systems up with proper nutrition, vitamin and supplement intake, and proper hydration.
Focusing an entire week on the flu and preparations one can make is very responsible.

I am not sure if it is real or not I did not get it, I just want to be prepared for what ever comes along. It may seem like a hoax now, but could to be very real in the future. This last scare could have been a test run to see how Americans would react to it and it’s treatment. It doesn’t hurt to have the information. I want to know how to take care of myself and family regardless of whatever happens.

Thank you for covering this flu/disease thing. We’re getting blase about this. Many of us had a swine strain years ago and maybe WE had immunity to some degree. Maybe others aren’t so ‘experienced’ immunologically.
Here in N New Mexico we had hauntavirus few years back – VERY fast and VERY deadly. Imagine the fast haunta hybridizing with bird or swine varieties like H1N1. Nightmare. A very bright Mexican archeologist-researcher did tree-ring/El Nino wet weather/rodent presence and Aztec death correlations. Deaths were in the 10s of millions and often PREceded the presence of the Euros. Rats ‘n’ bugs, and critters exreta. I called a vet as to whether or not our domestic animals could pass H1N1 to us, as it becomes airborne. The little techie person answering the phone gave me the ‘party line’ , no. Within days a kitten had it, with severe upper respiratory problems. If your kids are susceptible or asthmatic, you’d need to be more heads-up, cause a lot of people DON’T KNOW YET. We maybe got lucky this time and dodged a bullet. Let’s stay vigilant, even if others conspire, profiteer, and out right lie to us. My genes may be killer having black plague memory as my ancestors were survivors. (Yes, I know plague is bacterial, but it flares up here, too from time to time. Ya gotta watch it.) But what of other people? What of viruses and bacteria mutating?
Let’s all enhance our skills here.
One more thing.. I think the Mexican government acted very prudently try to protect us the US, their neighbors and the rest of the world giving us a very early warning and trying to contain. Think they learned something from their ancestors’ history? We were watching it closely here just north of the border. Two friends of mine had it, one was VERY sick-for weeks.

My wife and I are both healthcare professionals who have no allegiance to, and are in no way compensated by either the government or the pharma companies, I want all readers to know that H1N1 is real, does exist and is not a product of any government or pharma lab or conspiracy. However, with that said, history has taught us that government (both the Democrats AND Republicans) has used both real and perceived emergencies as ways to manipulate the public to increase their own power.
What we have here are two issues: medical and political. People, just because you are wary and untrusting of government (and rightfully so), do not let your distrust make you overly emotive when making health decisions for you and your family. Do NOT rely on the Internet (even this forum) or the mainstream media as your primary resources on which you base your healthcare decisions. Speak to your family physician. If he/she is uninformed or uninterested in discussing your concerns, then find another provider.

Is the swine flu threat real? How should I know. I haven’t had personal experience with it and don’t personally know anybody that has; That’s like if you “taught” me all about the climate and culture in Iceland and then gave me a test, asking me what the climate and culture in Iceland is like. I haven’t been there, so I can’t really say…I can repeat what I’ve been told to believe on the subject, but I don’t necessarily believe it just because of what some so-called “expert” tells me. What I DO know, is that preparation is always key: Be healthy. Be mentally alert. Excersize. Make the best food choices you can make. Why didn’t the Black Plague kill *everybody* it came into contact with?? Some people are stronger/have better immune systems than others..Strengthen it now, while you can. And keep some *7 thieves” remedy around the house. That stuff is so nasty tasting no self-respecting bad germ will stay!
I’m sorry; I’m I out of touch? What pandemic? I was at the hospital the other day for an out patient procedure and the hallways were ‘not’ lined with gurneys of moaning people. Nor were there long lines of sick people waiting to check in.
In 1957 the Navy experimented on us with a new flu vaccine (probably the first one) that put me in sickbay for three days. Will I ever take another flu shot — don’t think so. By the way, at that time I was an 18 year old 170lb farmboy just turned sailor.
Each year the Govt. tries to guess which strains of flu will afflict us and then develops a combination vaccine for them. Needless to say they don’t always get it right.

Yes, the swine flu is “real” but it’s threat to most healthy adults/children is minimal. However, that being said, anyone of older age/constitution, younger children or those that already deal with cancer or chronic illness like diabetes or emphysema are at heightened risk of complications and death from this flu. And, remember, there are reams of documentation showing that exposure to stress lowers immune system function and, in the event of some catastrophic event, everyone will be under more stress.
We have to be careful and listen closely to the news media. On most accounts, they exagerate every story in order to get people to watch their station. This can cause un-necessary panic and undue stress most of the time, but we have to be ready for the time when it gets bigger than even the rating hungry news media reports.
You’re right on…and this becomes VERY evident in the Katrina lesson.
