The Ultimate Step-By-Step guide to creating your Urban Survival Plan

Terrorist Attacks and Pandemic Flu???

Flu season is ramping up and you’ve only got a few short weeks to get your preparations in order.  There are some VERY simple things you can do to drastically reduce your chances of contracting any strain of the flu.  I’ll tell you a few simple ones in just a minute.

First, what do terrorist attacks on schools and the flu have in common?

Last year, militant Islamic websites were suggesting multiple simultaneous attacks on schools.  They assumed that the FEAR caused by 5-10 attacks, regardless of the success or the number of fatalities would cause parents to take their kids out of school in massive numbers.  The result would be a huge drop in the workforce for as long as they could make people believe more attacks were coming.

To put it short, in addition to the loss of life and innocence, the economic cost would be devistating.

With pandemic swine flu, people are over-reacting to non-severe cases and the media is underplaying severe cases among otherwise healthy people to keep the general population from panicing.

Similar to the terrorist attacks, no matter how bad the actual effects of the virus are, most of the consequences of the flu virus becoming a pandemic will be the result of people taking action based on FEAR.

I’m of the school of thought that it would be GREAT if everyone in the country could catch the weakest strain of H1N1.  Right now, even people with the weakest strains are being quarantined, keeping people from catching it and developing antibodies that could protect them from the more aggressive strains.

As I discuss in the pandemic lesson in SurviveInPlace, the flu virus is relatively weak and gets killed very quickly by direct sunlight.  One of the reasons why the flu spreads more rapidly in the fall and winter is that people in the Northern Hemisphere start spending more time indoors.

This has a multitude of effects that I discuss in detail in the course, but one of them is that when people with the flu breathe or sneeze indoors, the sun can’t kill the virus in their spittle.  (By the way, the virus can stay airborne for 11-17 minutes after being sneezed)

If people keep reacting the way that they are now, it’s very likely that when the number of H1N1 cases start to spike this fall, we’ll either see school shutdowns or mass incidents of parents taking their kids out of school to keep them from getting the flu.  I understand this, but one of the consequences of this is a decrease in the workforce due to parents staying home…just like what the terrorists were trying to accomplish with their attacks.

This won’t be like when kids are home for holidays and breaks and go to movies, shopping, and other social activities.  When parents take their kids out of school to avoid the flu, they’ll likely avoid densily populated areas (warehouse stores, mass transit, sporting events, etc.) and probably won’t even do as much shopping as they normally would.

So, what can you do to prepare, regardless of how bad the flu season is?

Well, I want to tell you straight out that this is ALL speculation.  I don’t have a crystal ball.  Frankly, I pray that I’m wrong, and that H1N1 fizzles out and it doesn’t have any economic impact on the country.  That being said, the steps that you can take to prepare for it are very simple and fit in with the rest of the SurviveInPlace course:

1.  Have a reserve supply of food/water/herbal medicines on hand.  Ideally the same foods that you normally eat.  If you can, make it a point to stock up on 2-4 weeks of non-perishable food in the next few weeks.  This way, if you decide to self-quarantine, you will be all ready to go.

You should have these supplies in place anyhow, but if you you’re opposed to “hoarding”, keep this in mind:  If nothing happens with H1N1, you can eat up the food in December to free up money for Christmas.

2.  Carry hand sanitizer with alcohol and aloe.  Use it often, especially after opening doors, shaking hands, etc.  If you don’t use a sanitizer with moisturizer in it, you are very likely to develop micro cracks in your skin that will allow viruses and bacteria direct entry into your system.

3.  Wash your hands regularly throughout the day.

4.  Carry a pen to use rather than the “leashed” one at stores & your bank.

5.  Use a paper towel to shut off water & open doors in public restrooms.  Consider carrying an extra few for when you run into air dryers.  (Remember that less than 1/2 of men wash their hands after using the restroom.)

6.  Try to telecommute and/or explore ways of making money from home.

7.  Avoid touching your face unless you’ve just washed your hands.  Pay particular attention to your eyes, mouth, and nose.

And…a GREAT couple of tips from a fellow student (THANK YOU!).  I was able to verify them and want to share them with you:

1.  Drink tea or warm liquids every day.
2.  Gargle twice daily with salt water.
3.  Use saline spray or a neti pot to irrigate your nose, sinuses, and throat with salt water.

Why?  Because the H1N1 virus needs time in the back of your throat to reproduce enough to reach critical mass and overwhelm your immune system.  By using salt water and/or warm liquids, you can wash many of the virus particles out of the throat and into the stomach, where stomach acids will kill them Black Flag DEAD!

As a bonus, this approach is MUCH like getting an immunization.  Since there will be fewer active virus particles left, your immune system will have a chance to adapt and figure out how to kill the virus and increase your immunity.

Please share any other PROVEN H1N1 tips, tricks, and ideas that you have, as well as first hand accounts from medical personnel.

Also, please take a second and tell me what you’ve done to improve your immune system and prepare yourself for the flu season and the threat of a pandemic.

In the meantime, if you have any interest at all in Urban Survival, you really need to check out the SurviveInPlace Urban Survival course.

Always good tips. Last year my daughter and her 2 sons, who live with me, got colds and flu twice. I took Echinacea when I felt like I was getting sick and I never got it. This year I am taking Astralagus. Naturalists say it is even better than the Echinacea.

    David,
I appreciated reading your tips concerning pandemic influenza. I, literally, wrote the book (at least part of it) on pandemic influenza. (See Pandemic Influenza: Emergency Planning and Community Response, CRC Press, Jeff Ryan, editor). While working as a consultant to the US Dept of Homeland Security, I also wrote the government’s training course on Pandemic Influenza Planning and Preparedness (PIPP). I agree with your assessment of the threat of pandemic influenza, both real and perceived. Keep up the good work.

I was involved in planning for local response and local (county government level) implementation of plans for pandemic events, terrorist incident, biological, nuclear, and chemical events for a few years. The things you are discussing and the tips you are giving are dead on correct. The preparations you are suggesting are the right ones to make. The tips to prevent illness and injury are good ones. Your survive in place ideas are right in line with my own preparations for my family. we also have “bug out” plans, but staying in place where possible is most likely going to be optimal for most people. Keep up the good work.

I use (drink) packets of Emergen-C mixed in 4-6 oz of water regularly once a day. Then if I detect a sniffle or something coming on, I go to 2-4 times daily. It works for me. I also use a neti pot and think that is the best way to irrigate sinuses and the back of the throat.

Pharmaceutical grade colloidal silver is a wonder product. It has helped me avoid illness of many kinds, even when coming in direct contact.

I believe washing hands well and often is a good deterent. At church we stop shaking hands and greet each other only verbally during flu season. Use those ‘wipes’ when you take a cart at the grocery store and clean the handle thoroughly. Disinfect the door knobs, cabinet handles, car door handles, tool handles, etc. around your house. Women clean the handle and bottom of your purse regularly. Men, the same for briefcases. It all helps.

One of the reasons we get colds and flu in winter, we get less sunlight therefore less vitamin D…At the first sign of a cold, I take a vitamin C and a D-3 and it is history!!! You have to catch as early as possible, any blowing of the nose that is not normal, is a sign…sneezing another sign, a slight soreness in the throat another sign!! I have not had a cold or the flu in over 30 years, by paying attention to these early signs!!
I always carry a vitamin C and D-3 with me, so if I’m far from home, I can kill any coming cold instantly, if it gets a good head start…you’re stuck with it!!

Something that is very frequently overlooked, especially by travelers,is the pillows in your hotel or motel room. The pillow covers are sterilized and changed, but the pillow itself is NOT.Consider buying a new pillow at Wal-Mart ,or someplace when you arrive at your destination. If you are driving, bring one from home.Pillow slips are porous and would allow the organisms in the pillow that have been drooled, sneezed,or breathed into right into your respiratory tract.

I’ve invented a small generator that will fit in your pocket to make Colloidal Silver, which I call (GODS antibiotic) because no germ or bacteria can live in the presence of Colloidal Silver more than 6 minutes!! The health department in Chicago tested the water in a toilet bowl at the bus station, and it had over 650 pathogens in it. Then they poured 2 tablespoons of Colloidal Silver in it and stirred it. 10 minutes later they tested it again and YOU COULD DRINK THE WATER!! NO KIDDING!

One thing I’ve noticed when trying to avoid Flu or any other illnesses, that infest my work or living environments, by using an immune booster is that it seems to flair up arthritis like symptoms. I don’t normally have arthritis yet, but when using products like Airborne, my finger joints in particular become quite inconveniently sore after a few days. Usually I avoid the illness that’s going around, but there is still diminished capability. Any one else notice these side effects while using such products? I guess arthritis is an auto-immune condition attacking the joints, so boosting the immune system might amplify the coming attractions of old age.

Black Elderberry Extract has been researched as an agent reduce the severity/initiation of influenza. According to research, the product “Sambucol” may be efective in minimizing the virulency of the influenza virus. Please see the following websites for more information, part is summarized below:

    http://www.sambucolusa.com/scientifically-developed.htm
    http://www.blackelderberry.info/index.cfm?id=374
    http://www.blackelderberry.info/

“2009 – During an in-vitro study carried out in London by Retroscreen Virology in October 2009, black elderberry extract was found to be at least 68.37% effective against the H1N1 strain otherwise known as Swine Flu Pandemic strain.

    Clinical Summary:
Effective in the treatment of flu

Research data from studies around the world have proven black elderberry extract to be effective in shortening the duration of influenza A and B. Below are some research highlights:

•1995 (Zakay-Rones)- A double blind placebo controlled study was conducted during an outbreak of influenza B Panama. 93.3% of the cases treated with black elderberry compound saw a significant improvement of the symptoms. A complete cure was achieved within 2 to 3 days in nearly 90% of those treated with the black elderberry extract within two-three days, three days less than the placebo group.

•2001 – (Barak, Halperin and Kalickman) 2 in-vitro studies have shown that extracts from black elderberry were beneficial to the stimulation of the immune system.

•2004 –( Zakay-Rones) In a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study, black elderberry extract was shown to significantly reduce the duration of the flu by around four days. Significantly less people who were taking the extract took pain relievers compared to the placebo group.

•2005 –(Balasingham ) During an in-vitro study carried out in London, black elderberry extract was found to be at least 99% effective against the H5N1 strain otherwise known as Avian Bird Flu.

  • My granddaughter is prone to sinus/ear infections and was often sick from daycare spread illnesses. I began using goldenseal oil with garlic (3 drops in each ear) to help prevent and treat ear infections and Xylitol nasal spray for sinus infections. Haven’t had any more middle of the night emergency room runs and her immune system is becoming stronger. I have also used the Sambucol with good results. Alpha CE (homeopathic pills) is good to relieve sinus congestion and has no side effects.

    To Robert at 10:32 am.,
I had the same problem with immune boosters creating arthritis-like joint pain. It may be due to an allergy to sulfur in products. I discovered that many fruits (all non-organic dried fruits), veggies and especially breads now use sulfates/sulfites, etc. to keep products fresh. By reading labels, I have eliminated my joint pain. I have found that many people who are allergic to sulfur drugs have this problem and don’t realize they are being exposed to their allergin through regular groceries. Hope this helps. I have no medical training – just experience.

Salt water and washing hands are keys to prevention. Hands must be washed with soap for at least 20-28 seconds. (Sing the alphabet song) Thanks for mentioning the prventative measures to keep the body healthy. Also, my grandmother was a mid-wife in upper NY State. She believed in clean hands and salt water; plus, when the flu epidemic hit in their area and began infecting and killing many people, my grandmother helped to save her neighborhood area by placing whole onions in each room of houses and dosed everyone with slippery elm liquid. The onions absorbed bacteria/viruses and the slippry elm juice emptied the intestines. Not one neighbor was lost. Including my grandmother and her family. My father said he hated to see her bring out the slippery elm but he lived to the ripe old age of 90. Proven theory on onions: If you are afraid that potato salad prepared with onions as one of the ingredients will be get rancid and unfit after exposed to the air, you are right. The onions are the culprits. They will collect all bacteria and cause your salad to be unfit. It’s not the mayonaise.

  • Sam says:

Black elderberry has been used medicinally for hundreds of years.[5][6] Sambucus nigra L. may be an effective treatment for H1N1 flu.[7] A 1995 study found: “A complete cure was achieved within 2 to 3 days in nearly 90% of the SAM-treated group and within at least 6 days in the placebo group (p < 0.001). No satisfactory medication to cure influenza type A and B is available. Considering the efficacy of the extract in vitro on all strains of influenza virus tested, the clinical results, its low cost, and absence of side-effects, this preparation could offer a possibility for safe treatment for influenza A and B."[8] A small study published in 2004 showed that 93% of flu patients given elderberry extract were completely symptom-free within two days; those taking a placebo recovered in about six days.[9][10] A 2009 study found that the H1N1 inhibition activities of the elderberry flavonoids compare favorably to the known anti-influenza activities of Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and Amantadine.[11] A 2004 study found that symptoms of influenza A and B virus infections were relieved on average 4 days earlier and use of rescue medication was significantly less in those receiving elderberry extract compared with placebo. The study stated, "Elderberry extract seems to offer an efficient, safe and cost-effective treatment for influenza. These findings need to be confirmed in a larger study".[12]
A 2001 study entitled "The effect of Sambucol, a black elderberry-based, natural product, on the production of human cytokines: I. Inflammatory cytokines" concluded: "We conclude from this study that, in addition to its antiviral properties, Sambucol Elderberry Extract and its formulations activate the healthy immune system by increasing inflammatory cytokine production. Sambucol might therefore be beneficial to the immune system activation and in the inflammatory process in healthy individuals or in patients with various diseases. Sambucol could also have an immunoprotective or immunostimulatory effect when administered to cancer or AIDS patients, in conjunction with chemotherapeutic or other treatments. In view of the increasing popularity of botanical supplements, such studies and investigations in vitro, in vivo and in clinical trials need to be developed."[10]
A Modern Herbal by Mrs. M. Grieve suggests several elderberry syrup recipes:[6]
To make Elderberry Rob [syrup], 5 lb. of fresh ripe, crushed berries are simmered with 1 lb. of loaf sugar and the juice evaporated to the thickness of honey. It is cordial, aperient and diuretic. One or two tablespoonsful mixed with a tumblerful of hot water, taken at night, promotes perspiration and is demulcent to the chest. The Rob when made can be bottled and stored for the winter. Herbalists sell it ready for use.
'Syrup of Elderberries' is made as follows: Pick the berries when throughly ripe from the stalks and stew with a little water in a jar in the oven or pan. After straining, allow 1/2 oz. of whole ginger and 18 cloves to each gallon. Boil the ingredients an hour, strain again and bottle. The syrup is an excellent cure for a cold. To about a wineglassful of Elderberry syrup, add hot water, and if liked, sugar.
    [edit] Toxicity
The leaves, twigs, branches, seeds and roots contain a cyanide producing glycoside. Ingesting any of these parts in sufficient quantity can cause a toxic build up of cyanide in the body. In addition, the unripened berry, flowers and "umbels" contain a toxic alkaloid.
Due to the possibility of cyanide poisoning, children should be discouraged from making whistles, slingshots or other toys from elderberry wood. In addition, "herbal teas" made with elderberry leaves (which contain cyanide inducing glycosides) should be treated with high caution. However, ripe berries (pulp and skin) are safe to eat.[13]

Apple Cider Vinegar by itself or add medical grade hydrogen peroxide if one wants real affective disinfectant. For gargling, or open wounds. I use this for vegetables by spraying it on and rinsing it off. 50-50

Baking soda is my choice when I come down with any thing. Half teaspoon in glass of water every twelve hours till illness disappears. Twice is most often sufficient.

  • Ken Long says:

As already mentioned vit C and vit D3 are very important to our immune systems. Vit C can be taken every hour (up to a gram an hour). When your body is under extreme stress it will use every bit, if it gets too much it will simply act as a laxative. Vit D is best gotten through exposure to direct sunlight, but in the north it is necessary to supplement. Make sure the supplement is D3. Do not take vit A at the same time. Do not take Cod Liver Oil hoping to get vit D, and check your multi for the source of its vit A. The body makes its own vit A from Beta Carotene and specific vit A supplementation neutralizes the absorbtion of vit D.

Selenium hasnt been mentioned yet. This is a very important mineral for preventing the flu. Almost all flu strains start in regions that are weak in Selenium.

Sambucol (Eldeberry extract) has already been mentioned. This was created and tested during the flu epidemics in Israel and is proven to lessen the duration and intensity of the flu.

Colodial Silver is also great for killing any pathogen, bacteria or virus. In the old days wealthy people used to give their children silver spoons to suck on to prevent the plague. In addition to taking a colodial silver solution, add it to your nasal spray bottle and spray it up your nose. It is easily absorbed through the sinuses and this gets the most concentrated silver solution right were the bacteria concentrate the most.

Nasal washing and gargling with a warm salt or saline solution has already been mentioned. There is also a nasal wash solution called XLEAR that works extremely well. Its a Zylitol solution that you simply spray into your sinuses. Bacteria eat the zylitol and lose their adhesion and are washed out. This works great for preventing and curing sinus and ear infections, also good for controling alergies and preventing winter colds and flu.

Grapefruit seed extract. You must have this in your emergency kit. Any health food store, the large squeeze bottle should be less than $25 which is almost a year’s supply for one person using it daily at least 20 drops.
IT KILLS: virus, yeast, mold, fungus, anaerobic bacteria, bacteria, parasites. Used internally, externally, and to sterilize surfaces and food (meat, produce, whatever)and to sterilize water – just add it. THEY STERILIZE OPERATING ROOMS WITH THE UNDILUTED VERSION WHICH YOU CAN BUY ON THE INTERNET.

I got rid of a deepseated longstanding gum infection, deepseated longstanding lung infection, and deepseated longstanding fungal sinus infection. Each of these took months of GSE at a dose of at least 100 drops a day, sometimes 200. It plays well with echinacea and others. When you are younger, you can take higher doses – it disturbs digestion somewhat. It is a stool softener. Take probiotics with it if you are older to avoid a little discomfort.

It tastes bad, like grapefruit seed. I put it in morning coffee at 10 drops to a six-ounce cup, and drink two or three of these most every morning. If you drink 7-Up, a 12-ounce serving of it will accommodate at least 20 drops, which improves the taste of the soda.

GSE is sprayed on crops for fungus. It is put in makeup for prevention of contamination. It can be added to shampoo, liquid hand soap, laundry soap or laundry water, your shower or bathtub soap (even your bath water). You can kill mold on walls and carpets with it.

It tends to cling to the container, so I have not put it in spray bottles to clear the air, and have not used it to STORE water, because I think it might find its way out of the water and onto the surface … but, would the water still be pure? don’t know – but I would rather eat GSE than bleach.

  • Emily says:

This is not for flu. Bicarbonate of soda is powerful medicine and a thorough safe cleaner. It normalizes the body’s PH level by alkalinizing it, which boosts longevity as well as health. IT REMOVES RADIATION, both on your skin and surfaces (including food), and when ingested … AND removes radiation when tilled into soil. (Obviously, it does not remove all of every type of radiation.)

For oily skin with bumps of any kind, add bicarbonate of soda to your soaped-up hands, work or scrub into skin, wait, spray skin with apple cider vinegar, wait, and rinse. Your skin will be clear – or, in severe cases, the bumps will be headless and vastly reduced. Dead skin is removed. This would probably clean mechanics’ hands more gently than Lava.

I think the dose to counteract radiation internally is a tablespoon of powder.

Feed stores sell bicarbonate of soda as cow feed very inexpensively – four bucks for 50 pounds some years ago. That type does not clump. That is what I used for garden soil treatment.

Oh. It also puts out fires. You could carry some in your vehicle in case of fire, and have some by the stove. It cleans the kitchen quite well, cheaply, and isn’t poisonous. Also cleans tub and sink, faucets, etc.

We have been using 100% pure eucalyptus oil as an inhalant for years. Sniff it “like a druggie” with deep inhalation. The vapors kill any and all viruses. It is the cure for the Common Cold! It works best as a preventative, but will also shorten the duration and severity of a cold if you’ve already developed symptoms. We start sniffing any time we feel run down or have been around sick people.

Thanks for the great hints! Take care at self-service gas stations…you never know where the previous hands on those pump handles and buttons have been. Ditto for ATM machines and credit card pinpads in stores. Also, when confronted with a sudden and uncontrollable facial itch, use the back of your hand or sleeve when nothing more sanitary is available. Fingertips are the worst…definitely keep them out of eyes, nose and mouth!

  • DeJay says:

Only one mention of vitamin D here. Some MD’s who write newsletters and only use prescribed medicine as a last resort clain that most of us are deficient in vitamin D. With a couple improvements we now have D3. Dosage suggested is 5000 IU daily as maintenance and 15,000 IU during flu season and you will avoid getting the cold or the flu.

  • Michael says:

The thing I don’t understand is how smart people never got the message. You cannot kill viruses. All of the ideas presented apply towards conventional and herbal cures for bacterias.
Colds are caused by a virus. All of the store bought remedies do their best to hide the symptoms and end up extending the sickness. The bodies natural defense against a virus is a fever. You need to flush out the virus with plenty of fresh water. Fresh water = flowing water. Bottled water on the shelf is not fresh. Install a filter in your kitchen and save your money.
You think you will help by taking Tylenol etc. for your fever, when what you need to do is to bundle up and stay feverish for a few days to get rid of the virus.
Bed rest is absolutely necessary and the idea that you can take the cold and flu medicines and go to work will just tax your immune system and prolong the sickness.
You mentioned that sneezing indoors is really keeping the virus alive and that what you need is to get outdoors in the sun. Fresh air is necessary, but, you can’t sleep next to a draft. That means no fan or open window or AC blowing on your face when you sleep. That is the way your air passages get cooling down to the bottom of your lungs and you “catch a cold.”
You can take asprin for the headache and body pain.
Hot and cold water treatments are the old way to cure body pains. Learn how to use them. Hot showers, pat dry, lay down. Do that again if the pain comes back and keep doing that until you get better.
There are different definitions of the “Flu” these days. When I was a kid it was aches and pains and fever and throwing up. Now, it seems to be more aches and pains and congestion. You are advised to go to a doctor if you start throwing up, because that is caused by a Bacteria and CAN be CURED with an antibiotic.
Blowing your nose is the worst thing you can do. The mucous in your sinus will be forced into your ear canal and you will get an earache. You should learn how to flush the mucous out of your nose with water. It is easy to do in a hot shower. There is a Yoga exercise that teaches one how to do this like an elephant. Think about it…flush you sinus with water and you flush out the virus.
The best way to cure an earache and do away with the extreme pain that comes on is to use a half and half mixture of White Vinegar and filtered water. This is what divers do for swimmers ear infection. Every time they come out of the water they drop in a couple of drops of this vinegar mixture and squish it around to change the Ph in your ear. You will be amazed at how fast the pain goes away if you have an ear infection.
One reason you got the “Flu” in the first place was your Ph level. A study of that and how to stay “alkaline” instead of “acidic” will lead you to the solution for tons of other “infections” especially in women.
You can use these drops when you get the flu and keep your ears and throat safe from other infections.
When we did not have pharmaceuticals to “cure” illness, we did sensible things like these to take care of ourselves.

Hi David. I just wanted to share some information that I have found and used on my own that REALLY WORKS to kill infections of all kinds. In 2007 I had almost died of a MRSA infection. Nothing was working, when I searched the web for herbal remedies for MRSA. That lead me to a website called Purest Colloids. I read about MesoSilver. Nano particles of non colloidal silver that kill viral, bacterial and fungal infections. I have a severely depressed immune system due to multiple diseases, and after using this the infections have gone away. Twice the infections have landed me on my dead bed and both times only the MesoSilver has killed the infections and I have survived. It works quickly and does not build up in the tissues. It flushes out of the body within 72 hours. I have been able to use this with no reactions to my other medications, even my diabetes and chemo meds. The only place that has the patents to make this non-colloidal silver in 20 ppm is Purest Colloids. That is the strongest silver remedy therapy available. Doesn’t turn you blue either. I’ve used this as needed since 2007. Two infectious diseases doctors, well known in my area, both told me independently that they use silver to fight infections in persons whom nothing else will work, because non colloidal silver is all natural and the body does not build resistance to it and it kinds all kinds of infections. So it works every time and was used extensively before antibiotics were made in the 1940′s. Please check it out. It has saved my life twice already and I believe MesoSilver will help others just as well. Thank you for your courses. They are life savers.

Lots of good info –looks like everyone is getting into profitable research..I would like to comment on the echinacea/astragalas usage. Both are immune stimulators–but in a quite different way, and consequently there would be a more satisfactory outcome with correvct application. It might be a good idea to investigate how echinacea is used, specifically, as opposed to the astragalas. Each is excellent, each has it’s own focus..
Re: the Xlear/xylitolvs. salt.My experience has been, the salt has a more drying affect, when used as a nasal wash–and Xlear does not.It has been my experience,Xlear WILL clear contaminants that cause sinusitus, etc.

God Bless You, David. Each “Survive In Place” Lesson has been so informative!. I make hard copies of all your articles. Just wondered if you could format so we could print, but not have to print the comments. The price of paper coupled with ink cartridges is really getting expensive. Personally, my husband & I would rather invest that $ in Food Storage. etc. We just had our 11th grandbaby and have been teaching the other gandbabies, at an early age, how to become more self-reliant. Have been working on putting feet to some of your ideas in a creative way so that these precious little ones will learn life lessons at an early age, unlike the way “Papa” and “Nana” were taught many years ago!

Thank you again for sharing a wealth of knowledge we all need… Young and more seasoned alike!

Hello, Dave and folks. Read All the comments this time, you All have some great information. Thanks. First, I would like to comment to a couple of writers. To “Old Bill “…everything gone. No kidding. Temp.solution: I use pulic transportation and whenEver I get more than 30 mins. from house I have an always ready 3 day rolling back=pack. It wasn’t expensive. I can eat, drink, warm and defend myself Comfortably. Have 3 3600 calorie Datrex emergency bars sets, plenty but sustaining. Can buy cases of small “foil” water pouches. I set one in a go bag…10 yrs later and much moving around…not a scratch and drinkable. I won’t list ea. thing in there, but it cover medical, have a string saw, mini fishing kit, good multi-use compass, small solar or handcrank radio, multi use axe, prybar, hammer and on and on,,,and it is not very uncomfortable for all the peace of mind.Don’t forget the “lowly” long lasting lightsticks. I got all this stuff from a survival outfit. I realize this does not replace what was lost but with the correct contents..it gives you a chance for a plan…well, we should All have 2 or 3 plans. Hope that helps a little, I am more comfortable.
To All arthritis or joint pain sufferers, peanut oil is a marvel. Can buy the largest container you can. Rub a little, say a bare quarter size of oil for starters, and cover hands heat helps. Good for any joint pain, hands easiest to decide how much You need. Enough should not leave you greasy or oily.
As to pandemic…I drink essiac tea made the Native American way..drink daily, 2-4 ounces maintenance. Excellent ammune system builder< and yes, echinechia, and I read Astragulus is just about a cure all. I also take daily MSS drops. Miracle Mineral Solution MSS is in part a detoxifier…of all the junk they put in our everything. Chlorine and flouride in our water. MSS eliminates anything Alien to the human body. P.S…. this detoxifiers does not cheat a drug test…it is Medicine.

Wow! Great comments from readers today! My experiences: I’ve been using a gram or 2 of Spirulina Blue-green micro-algae as part of my diet daily for the last twenty years. I’m 69 and can’t remember the last time I had a Herpes outbreak or flu/cold of any kind. Your FOOD is your best medicine. Keep your immune system pumped and you should be fine. I also do 8000 I.U. of Vita D3 three/four days a week, Vita C, Mega-Red Krill oil, and some etc. Pioneers crossing the Great Plains dropped a silver dollar in their water barrels. They knew… I believe it’s the Spirulina that does the trick. Highest form of nutrition on the planet next to bee pollen. If you can find Dr. Christopher Hills (deceased) writings on it you’ll get a real education . Everything but Vita C and Calcium; can live on it alone for many years. Please be careful with your herbs! Many of them are pumped because they make money, not health.
Tradition is SOMETIMES reliable. American Indian tradition is good; European not so much. Two different worlds.

great ideas, one I dont see listed is the hunter squat. hunters dont have bathrooms so they just squat and do their buisness. this works great in public restrooms that are filthy. just lift the seat, squat, and do your buisness. dont touch the toilet and you dont get the germs. use a piece of toilet paper to lift the seat.
my state tested nursing instructor taught me this, since hospitals are the worst.

I just started getting survive in place, a few days ago and I love the tips and advice! In a previous report, someone asked where they could get food, ect.for emergency usage. I have used the emergency essentials catalogue for years! they have just about everything you need in an emergency, they’re at: BePrepaired.com, if any one is interested.
An emergency can last a lot longer then 72 hours, the black death, lasted for months, in England and surounding countryside wiping out over half the population, before it ran it’s course, that’s a lot of asprin! So,
I keep plastic coffee cans, stocked with everything from medicines to food in my car. before stocking them I puncture two small holes close together and across from each other on the can about an inch down from the top of the can and one hole on either side of the lid. thread some heavy twine or thin strong rope through the holes in the coffee can putting the rope or twine through the first out side hole into the can and out through the second hole on the same side of the can, leave enough rope or twine to feed through the can’s plastic top and tie to your main rope or twine,(so, if you drop the can the top won’t come off and spill the contents of the can). run out enough twine or rope to fasten the rope or twine to the can and top on the other side, leave enough twine or rope to be able to place rope or twine handle over your head so it sets crossways on your shoulder,(the way women cary their long strap- pocketbooks) you’d be suprised how meny of these little “buckets” you can cary at one time.A two three or four year old could even cary paper, pencles, crayons, a few small toys or snacks and feel like a big kid!

I have read a book “Back To Eden” (Healing herbs, home remedies, diet, and helth) by Jethro Kloss. Using this book, I have been able to pick 3 different herbs that help or kill the common cold. I have tried it succesfully on myself, and a few others. But as with anything results may vary, pending just how bad it is. Two years ago my uncle had a fairly bad cold, including in his chest. I had him drink some of this tea and he starting feeling the effects after the first cup. While its not a miracle cure, it does help to relieve the symptoms, and reduce how long it remains in your system. The book I mentioned is relatively old, and is way out of prodcution, you may be able to find one by searching for it, I happend to get luck and my copy was given to me by a good friend. Take care everyone.

It’s my understanding the cooler and dryer the air the less time the virus or what ever can stay viable. Use aroma therapy essential oils from a trusted source instead of wax just use a simmering pot style with tea lights. I use a small puddle of safflower oil then add about 5 drops of the oils of your choice. I use patchouli, clove and oregano. I buy 30 milliliters of each about once a year and consider this a good investment in my health.

  • andy says:

last year was the first year I used this drink, it was the first year I didn’t get a cold, drank it once a day:
using a quarter level teaspoon as the measure
    cayenne pepper
    turmeric
    ginger powder
    3 cardamon pods
    boil for 7 minutes
add a teaspoon of lemon juice
    add a teaspoon of honey
after checking the net for the health benefits of these spices I now also add:
    cinnamon
    fenugreek powder
    cumin
    fennel seeds [crushed]
    but that’s just personal preference
drink it once/twice a week during the summer

obviously to make a bigger drink just increase the measurements

    Alot of great info…
I did not see homeopathic Oscillococcinum listed. It has been proven to either completely deter the flu or lessen the symptoms greatly. It is a very popular flu remedy found at health food stores and now even some regular grocery stores and WalMart. It really works, but has to be taken in the first 48 hours of flu symptoms. Also the directions say to take all the pellets in the vial at once…very costly. Any homepath or naturopath will tell you, that is unecessary…you can take 8-10 pellets under the tongue with a clean palate(i.e. no food or drink for atleast 10-15 minutes on either side of taking the remedy). Let dissolve under tongue. DO NOT TOUCH PELLETS WITH HANDS. I pour into cap or spoon. Take 3 doses in 24 hours then stop.
With homeopathics, more is not necessarily better. You can even put the same amount of pellets in 1 cup of water and stir vigorously and then take 1 tsp. of water as a dose. COver and use clean tsp everytime you administer..also stir vigorously for every dose. You can use this technique for any homepathic remedy to extend the pellets.
Homeopathic Oscillococcinum and Influenzinum can be used preventatively as well. When healthy one can take a dose monthly.

Also with Grapefuit Seed Extract (GSE)…great product…It is very bitter. If you pour it into Grapefruit Juice, you can not taste it at all! I now keep a can of grapefruit juice on hand at all times. Great for stomach flu too.
Also when taking herbal tinctures or GSE and things that taste badly…don’t pour into a large amount of water, juice, etc…pour into an ounce or two…like a shot and chase with pure water.

About Echinacea and Astragalus….Astragalus is an immune Tonic. It helps to build the immune system. Very good! Take reglarly when well. Echinacea can help fight illness…to be taken when ill for up to 5-7 days. One should stop for 3-5 days then resume if needed.

I have found that herbal remedies require more diligence and repetition. At the onset of something especially a flu, I take the remedy i’ve chosen (except for Homeopathy…see above) heavy for the first dose then back off but take it every two hours or so thereafter….for example, if I (as a full grown adult weighing 150+ lbs.)am taking echinacea/goldenseal, I take 3-4 droppers first then 1 dropper every 2-3 hours afterwards esp. if I think i am really comingdown with something more than a cold.
I always take lots of VIt. C…upto 5000mg/day when sick or fighting something and then back off as I get well or illness threat subsides.
Also I have found CHinese patent medicines to be inexpensive and very effective and easily found at a health food store….Curing/Culing for stomach flu and digestive disturbances,m Yin Chao, and Gan Mao Ling for flus and colds…Hope this helps….

During the winter months, it is helpful to supplement daily with at least 5,000 mg Vitamin D3. Unfortunately, our understanding of the flu and other infectious diseases is still based on the faulty and dubious “Germ Theory”, which has been challenged and shown to be wrong by notable researchers such as Antoine Bechamps, Rudolf Virchow, and Gunther Enderlein. Even Louis Pasteur at the end of his life admitted that the Germ Theory is wrong, and that it is not the germ, but the terrain that determines whether we will become ill or not. For obvious reasons, the Germ Theory is not being questioned by mainstream medicine, since our health system is not set up to teach us about prevention by strengthening our immune systems. Instead, a lot of money is being put into keeping us in the dark about the real causes of disease, so we feel disempowered and rely on expensive and often dangerous treatments with pharmaceuticals and vaccinations which are based on the premise of the Germ Theory. I am a holistic health coach and have successfully for many years avoided any colds and flus for myself and my family by following nutritional strategies that keep our immune systems strong. Apart from making sure that our Vitamin D blood levels are appropriate, we also make sure to routinely ingest probiotics and enzymes with our meals, whether through supplementation or lacto-fermented foods and beverages. After all, about 70% of our immune system is found in the gut, so to keep the gut healthy should be our number one priority.
Should an infection occur nevertheless, I know of many people who have had tremendous success in stifling the development into something bigger by using MMS (Miracle Mineral Supplement, discovered by Jim Humble). My mother has successfully been able to contain a recurring breakout of flesh-eating bacteria for which antibiotics do not work for her anymore. Colloidal silver should also be part of everyone’s first aid kit during the winter months. I wish you all wellness and strong immunity for the winter!

    HI everyone,
    Just some basic advise.
Its quite simple, all you need to do is take a high potency multivitamin, minerals and trace elements, have ionic Silver on hand and use it profilactically by drinking it and spraying it up your noise and breath it into your lungs, also boost your VIT D3 with between 1000- and 5000 IU per day and I can guarantee you wont get the flu or any common cold nor any secondary pneumococcal, staphylococcal streptococcal or meninggococcal infections. On no account accept any vaccines, they are designed using toxic adjuvants and additives to cause free radical overload and immune damage resulting in cytokine storms and or sterility. All the adjuvants and additives that are not disclosed are highly toxic bar none.
Keep in mind always , that the WHO ( World Homocide Organisation) and the UN ( UNITED NAZI ) organisation have a 80% depopulation agenda 21 since 1973. and that vaccines are part of the genocidal agenda of the Illuminati Elite in order to exterminate the masses without them being aware of it.

Most hand sanitizers cause problems and have toxic ingredients. Beware of those toxic ingredients. Be aware that the schools are using this stuff like it was water on your children. Very dangerous for them.

Washing hands with soap and water is still the best option. But be aware of the soap that you are using. It can be as toxic as the hand sanitizers.

If washing hands is not possible try Theraworx. Can’t say you much about it because is has not been evaluated by the FDA but it is clinically formulated for high risk areas. Cleans protects and hydrates all in one step. Has a patented colloidial silver formula. Website: http://www.theraworx.com.

Another good product is Hands First alcohol free hand sanitizer. It is doctor created, hospital tested. It hydrates your skin and also temporarily protects minor cuts and scraps. Also uses collodial silver and kills 99.99% of germs. Website:www.handsfirstsanitizer.com Both very good products to carry with you and both are alcohol free.
